Sigríður Hermannsdóttir is a photographer and visual artist from Reykjavík, Iceland. Working primarily in black and white, her images reflect a quiet intensity rooted in feminist thought and personal truth. Her works are often political and explore different issues and photographic expressions through them.

“miss messy” consists of six black and white photographic works that capture the turmoil that comes with beauty standards. Standards are constantly changing, and with the growing of social media, trends come and go even faster. At a certain point, they collide and collapse. Relationships take on different forms, and within a heteronormative society, the question is always “who is the man in the relationship?” In this work masculinity is taken out of context and femininity is given full weight. Through sincerity, emotion, and the opposition of what is considered feminine, the male gaze is eliminated.
